Houston Texans were one of the teams that were looking to add a signal caller after the season ended. They have all the pieces ready on the defensive side of the ball as well as some big-time playmakers on the offense. But, the one thing that they lacked is that quarterback that is going to put them over the top in the AFC.
Tony Romo was in play for them, and there were reports that he actually wanted to join the Texans if they were willing to make a move for him before he decided to hang up the cleats and retire. They were the team that he was heavily rumored to go to, but in the end, that never happened.
It seems that Houston Texans had no other choice but to go with DeShaun Watson in the NFL Draft. They traded up from the pick number 25 to 12 and selected their quarterback of the future. Now, is that a better move than getting Romo while he was still available?
Well, depends on how you look at it. If you want to win now, this season or next, Tony Romo was the better option as he is the one with experience. They don’t need to develop Romo long-term, they could have just implemented him in their offense in hopes of beating the Patriots and getting out of the AFC. They have the defense that is elite, and that would have helped them a lot.
On the other hand, if you are not looking for someone to develop and someone that is not just a short-term option for you, Watson is the guy for that. They now have the main piece on their offense and can now fit in other players that can work well with the kind of quarterback that they have. Houston Texans did a good job in the first round of the draft. Now, it’s all on Watson.
