Numerous modifications and customizations have been applied to the Mitsubishi L200 (also named Strada or Triton in some markets) in order to take on all kinds of desert terrains. The Desert Warrior is set to debut at the 2017 Commercial Vehicle Show held in Birmingham, UK. The L200 Desert Warrior is a one-off pickup specifically designed and created as a ‘pre-runner,’ a vehicle customized to test out the ‘pre-run’ stages of off-road tracks for desert races.

Mitsubishi’s Special Vehicle Projects (SVP) program is the one accountable for the development of this vehicle. All in all, this special one-off has a rear and a front bumper made of steel and a humongous nudge bar. Skid plate and a power winch can also be found at the front end of the car. Another important thing when it comes to desert roaming is the set of tires, and for this one, we are getting large self-inflating desert tires which are put on ten-spoke alloy wheels.

Protection-wise, the company, added an external roll cage which is all black. Custom wheel arches, upgraded step boards, and suspensions are featured on the side. You will find a bicycle and spare equipment in the bed of the car. Finally, the last touch to this vehicle comes in a pair of custom made racing seats which were produced only for the L200 Desert Warrior.

However, we have to exclaim the fact that Mitsubishi will not sell this vehicle because we don’t want to get your hopes too high while reading this article. But, there is light at the end of the tunnel because the company did produce 250 units of the L200 Barbarian SVP which is quite similar to the Desert Warrior. That car is available in two colors, Cosmos Black and Electric Blue Metallic. The Barbarian SVP has an aggressive and dangerous look both on the outside and on the inside making it ideal choice for any off-road excursion.

The front end of the car has a black grille, somewhat modified front bumper, and bi-Xenon lighting. When it comes to wheels, this beast features 17-inch black alloys dressed in BF Goodrich tires designed for all surfaces. Another interesting thing is the feature of black fender flares, black rear bumper and roof rails. The company took another step forward by adding additional blacked out trim featured on the headlights and tail lights.

Cabin features a ‘limited edition’ (according to Mitsubishi) ‘Barbarian’ leather seats embroidered with ‘Alston’ suede inserts. Every single one of these units is said to have their specific model number stitched on headrests. Illuminated door entry sills and front and rear mood lighting are there to refine the cabin ambiance.
When it comes to built-in perks, this car has automatic headlights, keyless entry, rain-sensing wipers, sat-nav, cruise control, Bluetooth and reverse camera.

Under the hood, the Barbarian has the well-known 2.4-liter MIVEC turbo-diesel inline-four engine that produces 181 PS and 430 Nm of torque. This unit is coupled with a Super Select 4WD system which can be paired with a 6-speed manual or a 5-speed automatic with paddle shifters.

Managing Director of Mitsubishi Motors UK stated: ‘The Mitsubishi L200 is one of the most durable pickup trucks available, but the Desert Warrior takes its toughness to a whole new level. In fact, its purposefulness and ruggedness has provided the inspiration for the Mitsubishi L200 Barbarian SVP, the first limited edition model to be created by our new SVP (Special Vehicle Projects) program.’
