BMW is running some tests and the first vehicle spotted on the Nurburgring was the X7, and after this model, the X5 was caught on cameras on the famous track. The redesigned BMW X5 is going to arrive within the next two years, and although it wears heavy covers, it is relatively easy to see that it will be similar to the ongoing version. Some reporters suggest that it may be introduced at the very beginning of 2018, but that probably is not the case.
Even though the crossover is in the early stage, we can already see some differences. The prototype caught on camera sports a larger twin-kidney front grille, while its front bumper has gone through some evolutionary changes. The 2019 BMW X5 is going to have an already seen design with more curvaceous bodywork and prominent character lines, whereas its rear segment features a spoiler located on the tailgate and upgraded tailpipe finishers.
The company doesn’t want to speak about the new X5 and what will be under its hood, but our guess is that the German automaker will use the engines from the new 5-Series. In this case, a 2.0-liter TwinPower Turbo I4 that produces 248 hp and 258 lb-ft of torque is one of the options followed by a larger 3.0-liter TwinPower Turbo I6 engine good for 335 hp and 332 lb-ft of torque. Last but not the least, a 4.4-liter TwinTurbo V8 unit with the maximum output of 456 horses and 480 lb-ft of torque might also power the BMW X5.
BMW will probably produce a plug-in hybrid version which might come slightly later, whereas the fans can look forward to a high-performance BMW X5 M model that will use the M5’s engines. Follow us for more details.
