If you didn’t already know, in 2019 in dealerships across Europe a new kid on the block will show its face. That new kid is Ingolstadt’s suggestion for a crossover coupe that will be loosely based on the next-generation Q3, and it will be called 2019 Audi Q4. This new vehicle in Audi’s ever-growing family will be assembled in Hungary at the Győr plant, and it just might look like the render we have provided for you.
Everyone by now knows the all famous recipe for making a coupe crossover vehicle – you take a regular crossover chop and alter its roofline, make it more sloping towards the back, so it gives out the feeling of a coupe and presto! You have a coupe crossover vehicle for which the demand has grown lately and for which the automakers are determined to ask a premium price. This all comes despite the clear fact that these types of vehicles are a lot less practical than the regular crossovers. People usually buy them to stand out in the crowd of all other crossover and not care if they have a lot less headroom at the back or a lot smaller trunk.
As we managed to find out both the Audi Q3 and 2019 Audi Q4 will ride on Volkswagen Group’s MQB platform and will come as standard with front-wheel drive, but with the option of Quattro for the more expensive variants. Since the MQB platform allows it, you can expect a wide range of three and four-cylinder units that will, thankfully, all be turbocharged. The most likely and latest candidate which could power both of these (at least their base variants) is the recently introduced 1.5 L TSI Evo offered on the facelifted Golf.
Since the Q2 now acts as an entry-level crossover from the German carmaker, it is fair to expect for Q3 to grow in order to distance itself. What the look and dimensions of the Q4 will be, for now, we do not know but understanding how Audi functions we will not have to wait for long because they will likely preview the new model with a concept form some time from now. With the new Q3 coming next year we will most definitely have a clearer picture of what to expect for its sportier-looking derivative.
If you remember one of the auto shows from three years ago, Audi actually made a preview of an offroad TT concept which, pretty much, was a base for renders we have here for you. It will undoubtedly be very interesting to see how the 2019 Audi Q4 will turn out – will it get hotter versions such as an SQ4 and/or an RS Q4, or something totally different. We are still holding to a promise that Audi Sport enhanced their RS SUV lineup, but I think it is too early to expect such a fresh newcomer immediately to get a full-on RS treatment. If it does though, expect a turbocharged five-cylinder 2.5 L unit with 400 HP just like the one in the RS3 models.
