As it seems Porsche is making their final touches on what will surely be a third-gen Cayenne for 2018. They are undoubtedly writing the next chapter in the German marque’s short but important SUV history. We could see that a lot of effort was made in the 4×4 market, and some of them were controversial especially for the fans of the brand, but nevertheless, it brought the sports car maker a vital cash flow.
That the times and tastes have turned around is best shown by the fact that the somewhat smaller Macan is the company’s biggest seller, but this doesn’t mean Cayenne should be discarded, no, it still accounts for a huge chunk of total sales. According to Porsche and their internal count just over 70.000 units were shifted in 2016, which is around 30% of company’s total output. But let’s get back to the topic of the 3rd gen Cayenne.
As you can see from the images we provided you, it will host some of the design cues from its little brother, the Macan. The front of the vehicle should be graced with the clamshell bonnet with embedded headlights, while the back will most likely host the LED tail-lights that will be connected by a thin lighting strip running the width of the tailgate. All in all, expect the design to be somewhat refreshed with a nip and tuck here and there instead of it being completely new, especially with the fact that the silhouette of the SUV will remain very much unchanged.
The underpinning of the new Cayenne SUV will be the Volkswagen Group’s MLB Evo architecture which is used by other premium SUV’s in the VW group like the Audi Q7 and Bentley Bentayga, as well as the next VW Touareg and all-new Lamborghini Urus. The new platform is much lighter than the one that is under the ongoing Cayenne which means that if Porsche combines it with the new, lightweight materials such as aluminum, they could shave up to 100 kg off the current car’s weight. That as you know brings better driving pleasure and experience, faster vehicle, but most importantly it will get you better fuel economy in the process.
2018 Porsche Cayenne Interior, Engine and Price
The interior, according to reports, will be somewhat more revolutionary unlike the exterior. You can probably expect to see a digital dash and center console design taken from the new Panamera, as well as high-resolution displays, haptic feedback controls, and improved connected services.
The Engine compartment will remain pretty much the same with offers like six and eight cylinder diesel and petrol units. Porsche will, of course, put some work into these engines and tweak and tune them to squeeze them for a bit more of power and better fuel economy. You can expect an entry-level trim to be a V6 powered Cayenne diesel, which could start from around $69,000, while the flagship Turbo and Turbo S models will be priced from around $125,500, but for that amount, they will offer class-leading performance. Porsche will also offer the Hybrid tech in its new Cayenne, and we can pretty much expect the 671 HP turbocharged powertrain from the new Panamera Turbo S E-Hybrid.
