Blackberry Ltd (NASDAQ:BBRY) (TSE:BB), previously, made available its messaging service on other platforms that include Android and iOS. And, now, the plans of making it available on Windows platform that were under discussions have taken shape finally. The testing took place in February and as per the announcements made by the company yesterday, the users can make use of the beta version for Windows.
Unique features for Windows
The app has been designed very cleverly by Blackberry Ltd (NASDAQ:BBRY) (TSE:BB) developers making use of Windows Phone user interface so as to give users a superior experience. The app focuses on three main areas; Contacts, Chats and Feeds, and the users can freely navigate between the three pages with just one swipe in either direction. The common and most frequently performed actions are available at the bottom of the page, and there is a button with three dots that leads to the menu, which offers additional controls to the users. A user can, also, pin their most preferred contacts on to the start menu for easy access with the help of a new feature that is unique to BBM for Windows Phone. The user can open a chat window for that user with just one click.
No stickers yet
Besides the new ones, the remaining features are same as with other versions of the app for the other OS. The option of chatting with a single person or with a group is intact as before. Sharing of pictures, voice notes, contacts and locations is, also, possible. Using BBM Groups, you can connect and share with up to 50 contacts, this is in addition to being able to use private group chat where group members ca chat about pictures in a sherd photo album.
However, the beta version does not offer stickers like the earlier versions, which the Canadian firm unveiled this year-BBM Voice, BBM Channels and location sharing powered by Glympse. Soon, these features too will be available on the BBM for Windows Phone by Blackberry Ltd (NASDAQ:BBRY).
According to BlackBerry, the new BBM for Windows concentrated on three area that are considered core to the BBM experience: Contacts, Chats, and Feeds which gives you the ability to see what’s going on with your BBM contacts, if they update their profile picture or status.
This beta version is primarily for getting relevant feedback for making improvements to the service and the full release will be made sometime later.
