Despite the fact that Pontiac was killed off almost seven years ago by GM, the new Trans Am 455 Super Duty has just been presented at this year’s New York Auto Show. Trans Am Worldwide produced the new vehicle based on the Chevrolet Camaro, but it has gone through such an overhaul that it reminds us of the Pontiac Firebird.
The modifications go beyond stylistic, and the company used light carbon fiber components for the hood, fascias, rear spoiler, deck lid and fenders. What makes the Super Duty unique is the addition of a ground effects package, 20-inch wheels that are wrapped in Michelin Pilot Sport rubber and Trans Am-inspired graphics. Moreover, the springs have been lowered, and there is a beefier anti-roll bar and optional T-tops.
This tuner house from Florida decided to leave the Camaro cabin, but they couldn’t resist from adding some authentic details to make a distinction between the two models. Thus, you can find embroidered leather seats, painted door panels and a new shifter together with the “Trans Am 455 Super Duty” sill plates, special floor mats and a redesigned instrument cluster.
The engine which is used to power this beauty is an updated LT1 V8 which came instead of 7.4-liter units. However, the company decided to install a cold air intake, ceramic coated headers and a 2.3-liter Magnuson supercharger and to enhance the exhaust system. Because of these changes, the Trans Am Super Duty delivers 1,000 horsepower and 1,046 lb-ft of torque
The Super Duty will be assembled only in 50 examples, and the sales will commence on May 1st. We definitely love it, how about you?
