Everyone’s favorite movie star Dwayne The Rock Johnson sold his luxurious and glamorous riverfront Gold Coast home-away-from-home for a hefty sum of $6.95 million, and manage to do so after just one year after it was put on the market. Just for comparison, the last property that was sold there remotely close to this sum was the Villa Capri, at 41 The Promenade on the Isle of Capri, and it was sold in 2012 for $4 million.
The proud new owner of Dwayne’s seven bedrooms including a boardroom, cinema, wine cellar, indoor and outdoor pools, and an internal glass lift house already has a property on the Isle of Capri right on the riverfront. This two-level property was sold for $8.5 million just before the global financial crisis, and just three years ago Dwayne rented it for a reported sum of $20,000 a week for the period of four months during which he shot the San Andreas movie on the Gold Coast. In March 2016 the sought price for this Promenade house was more than $8 million, but shortly after that, it was cut down to $7.95 million and just last month to $7.2 million.
Duncan Longmore and his colleague Michael Kollosche from Kollosche Prestige Agents were in charge of the sale, and they stated yesterday that the sale of the house would be finalized at the end of the month. “The buyer long has admired the property and can’t wait to move in. I think they are rather bemused by the Dwayne Johnson connection.”
As we managed to find out, original seller of this house was Elizabeth Zarb, a member of a long-standing Mackay family who bought the house from a mortgage. The origin of the house draws roots from the 1990s when a Japanese couple built it on a 1451 sq m site, which has a 36 meter long lovely river frontage. Back in 2000, it was bought by transport company owner Peter Smith who acquired it for a sum of $2 million, and after some modifications to it sold it to Ligeri Vivlios, wife of developer Jimmy Vivlios in 2007. In 2012 Mrs. Vivlios lost the property to a mortgagee right after her husband’s business suffered its demise.
