2019 BMW 1 Series first spy shots!

Unfortunately for BMW 1 Series, it is kind of an ugly duckling (may be subjective) when you consider other vehicles in the lineup of German carmaker. It has been around since 2011, and although it received a major redesign in 2015, it can still hardly be called an attractive hatchback. But the hope is on the horizon because the Bavarians have been preparing something special in the form of an all-new model and we have the first spy shots of it.

As you could imagine, a hefty amount of camo is the name of the game. It is covered from ground to the top of the roof, but despite that, the first thing you will notice is the new design language and a lot sleeker appearance of the 1 Series. The company managed to change everything from the shape of the headlights and taillights to the vehicle’s size.

As we can see from the picture, the size has been increased, meaning the wheelbase has been as well, and that is backed up by somewhat bigger rear doors than those on the ongoing model. This is great news because we actually could be getting more space inside the cabin, and moreover, it could be even spacious for those sitting at the back.

2019 BMW 1 Series Changes

The changes on the 1 Series are going to be big, and if rumors are to be trusted, it will also trade the RWD for FWD that will come as standard thanks to the new UKL platform, which is also utilized by the 2 Series Active Tourer & Gran Tourer minivan. What we are afraid of is that this “demotion” might impact the sales of the vehicle, but on the other hand that might not actually happen. Why? Well, thanks to the study conducted back in 2010 we found out that 80% of 1 Series owners believed the car comes with an FWD configuration.

Maybe the buyers are a little more enlightened now than they were seven years ago, but nevertheless change probably won’t impact the sales of BMW’s smallest vehicle that much. The harsh reality is that there is a lot of buyers who just do not even consider whether the car they are driving is FWD, RWD, or AWD, they will buy it if they like it or if they can afford it, and that is the only reason. That is why the sales of the 2 Series Active Tourer & Gran Tourer minivan are so great.

But if you read carefully then you know that not all 1 Series vehicles are going to be FWD, only base versions will, while the higher end and better-equipped ones will surely utilize the almighty xDrive setup. Besides this the other advantage of the UKL platform is the possibility of fitting a wide range of three and four-cylinder turbocharged engines, meaning that the M140i will most likely have to drop its mighty six-cylinder unit.

2019 BMW 1 Series Release Date

Since what we have here is only the first round, out of many we suppose, of spy images, the sure bet is that the BMW 1 Series won’t come as soon as you hope it will. The most likely thing to happen is that BMW will introduce the next gen model sometime near the end of 2018 or the beginning of 2019, and in meanwhile they will try and do another facelift, but probably a very subtle one at best.

My name is Miloš Kalajdžić and I come from Brčko DC in Bosnia. I was born on July 20 th 1988 and so far I obtained a BSc in economics and one year of working experience in my field of study. I am a very hard-working person who leaves nothing unfinished and halfway done. When I commit to something I give my best to make sure that everything is done the way as it is supposed to be. I like cars and everything that comes with them. My passion are American muscle cars, but unfortunately the closest I managed to come near one is behind my laptop watching an image of the new Chevy or Dodge and writing about it. But that’s ok I’m still optimistic. When I’m not behind the laptop writing I’m on the streets and auto shows admiring all stuff rolling on four wheels being propelled by a petrol engine!
