Ford is really giving its best to shake things up, at least in places that they can. They are trying to offer new things to the world such as this one, which unfortunately won’t revolutionize the industry, but it certainly can be counted as the world’s first ever!
What we are talking about is the new Police Responder Hybrid Sedan based on the Fusion, which is set to make its official debut at the Los Angeles and New York. This here ladies and gentlemen is the second of 13 company planned hybrid and electric vehicles which Ford is planning to introduce in the next five years. Besides this hybrid sedan, Ford has also scheduled to reveal an all-electric small SUV, a hybrid F-150, a hybrid Mustang and a hybrid self-driving vehicle.
Joe Hinrichs, Ford president of The Americas, stated “Electrifying our next generation of vehicles is core to our unwavering commitment to sustainability. By being a leader in electrified vehicles, we remain committed to delivering cars, trucks and SUVs that are better not only for our customers, but for the environment and society as well”.
Since this is the first ever endeavor of this kind, Ford is assuring everybody who might be concerned that this is actually a fully functional and set for patrol Police Responder Hybrid Sedan. It has a long list of custom features, and some among those are front deflector plates, heavy duty suspension components, police-purposed wheels, tires and hubcaps and even a regenerative braking system with 17-inch discs and twin-piston calipers.
The engine that will power this machine will be a 2.0 L unit aided by a small electric motor that will drain its power from an advanced lithium-ion battery. Since this is a police vehicle, Ford had to make sure that the battery is calibrated for law enforcement’s unique duty cycle and that is why this car can run in battery-only mode for 60 miles.
Ford also stated that they are prepared to deliver this vehicle to police departments across the United States and that they will take deliveries as soon as next summer. Charlie Beck, Los Angeles Police Department chief stated that “Our mission to create safe and healthy communities in Los Angeles is achieved through sustainable approaches in community policing, and that includes embracing new technologies. Patrol vehicles are a police officer’s office, and we expect them to not only be economically and environmentally efficient, but also an effective tool for fighting crime in major metropolitan areas.”
