The previous Mazda CX-5 offered the very best handling in the segment, but the smooth ride had to be sacrificed. However, the new model has improved in almost every aspect, including the ride quality. The 2017 Mazda CX-5 was anticipated for a long time, and now it is finally here competing with Toyota RAV4 and Honda CR-V for the best in the class.
Mazda didn’t want to get rid of the 2.5-liter engine which has been losing popularity, so this unit, in combination with a six-speed automatic, powers the new CX-5. You can add AWD for $1,300 if you want. During the development process, Japanese brand had to take care of the cabin noise, so the engineers installed carpets in the trunk, double door sills, whereas the windshield comes with better insulation.
The new Mazda’s model is far better than its predecessor in terms of exterior design and this is something we haven’t expected. The 2017 CX-5 is a more spacious variant of the Audi Q3. However, the Japanese manufacturer was stubborn as they refused to install Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. Speaking of downsides, the headroom in back and rear visibility are far from the best in the segment.
What is also lacking on the new CX-5 is blind spot monitoring, which isn’t even offered as an option on the base trim. On the other hand, auto emergency braking is available in the lineup. 2017 Mazda CX-5 goes on sale in three different trims with the first one being Sport and it costs $24,045. In the middle of the range sits Touring model priced at $25,915 and it is followed by Grand Touring which you can buy for $29,395.
The features included in the base version are 17-inch alloy wheels, LED headlights, Smart City Brake Support and a 7.0-inch infotainment system. What you can also find here is cruise control, power windows and mirrors, air conditioning and a reversing camera. The CX-5 Touring adds six-way power adjustments for the driver’s seat, auto-leveling LED headlamps, keyless access and heated front seats. The Grand Touring offers higher-quality seats, lights and larger 19-inch wheels.
