As we all know Honda’s high-performance model of the 10th generation Civic range is the Civic Type R however recently we had an interesting surprise in Civic Si.
The company recently presented latest additions to this lineup, Civic Si and Civic Si Coupe. These are set to make an official debut at the 2017 New York Auto Show which is only one week away and we also acquired some performance figures.
When it comes to features under the hood, this car runs on a turbocharged 1.5-liter inline-4 engine known from regular Civic models. However, this unit qualifies new Civic Si as the first turbocharged Si version ever! This is great news for tuners, their hands are probably itching right now from the idea of messing with this car.
This little turbocharged beast will give you 205 horsepower and 192 pound-feet of torque. We know this is the same power as in the previous generation models, but it arrives 1,300 rotations per minute lower. When it comes to torque, it is up by 18 lb-ft when compared to the predecessor, and this feature also comes earlier in the rev range. To be precise, 2,300 rpm lower. Among these stats, we need to mention that the Si is also lighter than the model it will replace which means better performance.
Transmission-wise the aforementioned engine is connected to a 6-speed manual and is a front-wheel drive only. Having had a Civic Type R which produces 306 hp and is likewise a front-wheel drive this Civic Si should have no problems getting its power to the ground. This car also has stiffer suspension which will improve the handling. It also offers an active damper system, limited-slip differential, active steering system, 18-inch wheels with 235/40 tires and selectable drive modes including Sport and Normal mode. You’ll have no problem stopping since this car has 12.3-inch front brake rotors that are huge for the vehicle of this size.
Exterior-wise a front bumper is modified and looks more dangerous, there are bigger intake and splitter. At the back of the car, we see a deck lid spoiler which has a LED brake lights and also a larger side vent openings. We’ve also noticed that spoilers are a bit raised.
The cabin of the car is quite elegant. Sport seats with red stitching are featured here, and they come with Si logos. This red stitching flows all the way to the doors, steering wheel and leather wrapped shift boot which has an aluminum shift knob. The instrument cluster is also in red now, and aluminum pedals are among the new perks as well.
Release Date and Price
These models will be available during the next month, both Civic Si and Civic Si Coupe. We have no official word on pricing, but it is speculated and estimated that it will be in the mid $20,000 range.
As we’ve said, this car will debut at the New York Auto Show which starts on April 12. We will fully cover the event in case that you are not able to go and check it out yourself!
