Rumor has it that the 2019 Ford Explorer could be introduced this month at the NY Auto Show, instead of next year debut that was initially planned. The New York Show is just behind the corner, and we will soon know whether the rumors are true, but until then, the new Explorer has been spied in Colorado.
Next-generation Ford Explorer is expected to be larger and it will not be just a regular people hauler. The ongoing version was rather successful, so its successor will have a difficult task to be a better vehicle. According to a study, the Explorer Sport was at the top of the sales list of Gen-X buyers when it comes to non-luxury SUV models in the States.
The Ford Explorer marketing manager, Omar Odeh said that “when consumers look at the Explorer Sport, they see all the style and performance of a luxury SUV, but at roughly $20,000 less.” This means that Blue Oval created a car which design draws most of the buyers’ attention.
Even though the 2019 model is heavily camouflaged, we expect it to sport a similar modern look while its increase in size will make it more practical and it will also make it look more elegant. Autonews believes that all these flat body panels may indicate that aluminum is used to produce doors, tailgate, and the hood, but that’s only an assumption.
An FWD configuration is probably going to be standard on the next-gen Ford Explorer, whereas the AWD will be offered as an option. In the meantime, Ford and GM developed the new nine-speed automatic transmission that debuted in the 2017 Malibu, and there is a chance that it reaches the new Explorer as well. The main competitors of the 2019 Ford Explorer will be Honda Pilot, GMC Acadia, Kia Sorento, Toyota Highlander and many others.
