2018 Opel Insignia Country Tourer has debuted! After the introduction of 2018 Buick Regal TourX (in the US) it was only a matter of hours before we will see other wagons that are similar to this vehicle. The Opel/Vauxhall Insignia Tourer was accompanied by the Australian Holden Commodore Tourer. Opel claimed this car to be the bearer of the flagship title for the time being, but it is expected that the Tourer will eventually lose the title to the sporty OPC version upon its arrival.
This car, just like any other Country Tourer, looks like a regular Sports Tourer and of course, features an upgraded on-steroids suspension setup which is raising the ground clearance by 0.8 inches (20 mm). When it comes to the body, there aren’t many novelties except the added black plastic cladding located on the side skirts and wheel arches. This has also been implemented to the lower sections of both bumpers which were also modified.
Another great thing about this car is the fact that the all new all-wheel drive system with torque vectoring abilities (featured on Insignia Grand Sport and Sports Tourer variations) comes as a part of standard equipment on Country Tourer. That will give you a new five-link rear suspension and two electrically controlled multi-plate clutches instead of a regular rear differential. Pretty neat, right?
We all know that the predecessor of this Tourer had a variation later after a few months when the cheaper front-wheel drive model was delivered. We speculate that this might be in store for this car, however, we’ll have to wait and see whether there will be a FWD Insignia Country Tourer.
When it comes to specs, they are almost the same, but now we have a bigger cargo capacity which will get you 1,665 liters with the rear seats down. That is 130 liters more than in the previous model. And if that isn’t enough for you the roof can hold up to 100 kilograms (220 pounds). When it comes to the interior, the 92 mm wheelbase stretch over the previous model will give you more room for your legs (if you are sitting at the back). There will also be an option of heated seats, but the standard in the front are AGR certified seats.
Another novelty on the 2018 Opel Insignia Country Tourer are the LED matrix headlights that come with a set of 16 light emitting diodes in each cluster. They are capable of lighting the road ahead up to 400 meters. But this is an optional feature! You’ll probably have to invest more cash if you really want it. There will also be a 360-degree surround view camera, Android Auto integration and Apple CarPlay for those who prefer iOs over the Android. Among these perks, we also have safety systems such as adaptive cruise control (ACC) with automatic emergency braking, Rear Cross Traffic Alert and Lane Keep Assist.
As you know, this car will be presented with two badges. The Vauxhall and Opel versions will both be unveiled at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September. These cars will be available to buyers shortly after. When it comes to their brother Holden (Australia model), it will have to wait until the next year for the launch.
