Before the 2016 NFL Draft, the Dallas Cowboys were in a similar situation like right now. They needed to get some help on the defensive side of the ball. The only difference is the fact that they had a fourth overall pick, but they decided to take a running back and put him behind their offensive line. One year later, it seems that they made a great choice.
Even though their O-line is the best in the game, there is no doubt that a lot of the credit needs to be given to Elliot for his amazing play. He led the league in rushing and helped the Cowboys to the first overall seed in the whole NFC. They were the best team in the conference for the majority of the year with Elliot being one of their leaders.
Now, the expectations are for him to keep up at the same level and to display similar performances in his second season. So, what can we expect from the running back in his second season in the NFL?
Well, it’s pretty simple. This guy is again going to be one of the leaders when it comes to rushing the ball. There is no doubt that Dallas is going to give him the ball as much as they did last year. In fact, if they had given him the ball against the Packers a couple more times, the odds are that Cowboys would have been able to complete the comeback.
What he needs to do now is to work on his shifting skills. Running downhill is what Elliott does best, but he can improve when it comes running east to west. If he does that, he is going to become an unstoppable force behind this offensive line.
