Cowboys were one of the best teams last year as they finished the regular season at the top of the NFC. The offense did its part by leading this team to victories in most of the games. The defense did what they could, but that D wasn’t on the level of a championship squad. They are one of the biggest reasons why this team lost to Green Bay in the divisional round.
Free Agency has come and gone, and Dallas Cowboys defense just got weaker. They don’t have a secondary whatsoever right now so the Draft should be the place where they search for reinforcements when it comes to the defensive part of the roster. Cowboys have the 28th pick in the first round, and they are probably going to use it on defense, as they should. Vice president Stephen Jones believes that it’s the way to go.
“We think some of the best depth in the draft is the defensive line and the secondary, in our view,” executive vice president of the franchise told the reporters at the owners’ meetings in Arizona. “Now let me be real clear, if a great offensive player shows up that’s of great value to us, that doesn’t mean we aren’t going to pick an offensive player, but our focus is on defense.”
This is the approach that the Cowboys need to have. This team owns 28th, 60th, 92nd, 133rd, 211th, 228th and 246th overall pick in the draft. If some great offensive players fall into their hands, they should pull the trigger and take them. But, the focus should be on the defensive side of the ball. According to younger Jones, that is how it’s going to be.
