Well, this is something that every BMW lover will be able to appreciate. Apparently, the new X3 is set to make its official presentation in July this year, and the sales are expected to start very soon after that. But this is not what will gladden you, but the info we found on BMW Blog, stating that the M40i version is coming to US dealerships in October will.
As you are probably aware by now, the third gen of the X3 is being built on top of a very flexible CLAR platform. Internally the new model had a codename G01, and it is supposed to be larger, lighter, and stiffer than the ongoing version. What is great is that the third gen will offer more space in the interior as well as in the trunk area and will be around 220 pounds (100 kilograms) lighter. The German automaker decided to take a new design approach as well, so expect to see some great design ideas inside and out of the vehicle.
There are some changes under the hood as well, do not worry. According to reports, the company has prepared a wide range of diesel and gasoline options which will be available depending on the market it is dedicated to, with the addition of M40i and M40d variants.
What is almost instantly clear is that the petrol powered vehicle will be sold Stateside and it will start in October. The great info for you is that it will bring the re-tuned version of the company’s 3.0 L turbocharged engine which is, according to some reports, good for close to 400 HP (298 kilowatts). That, if you didn’t manage to do the math instantly, makes the X3 M40 more powerful than the X4 M40i. But those are just preliminary reports and unofficial details, so they should be taken with a grain of salt. But if it actually turns out to be right, then that means that this sporty SAV will be able to hit 62 MPH (100 km/h) from a standstill in only 4.6 to 4.7 seconds and reach what is electronically limited top speed of 155 MPH (250 km/h).
As it is always with BMW enthusiasts, there are some of you out there who believe that this is not enough, at least when we talk about its power. Just for you and the likes of you, BMW is preparing something special, and it will come in the form of the full-blown X3 M which will host a sports suspension, aerodynamic exterior package, modified brakes, and upgraded steering system. According to those reports, this one will come with a 500 HP engine. Insane right?!
