Buyers who are browsing for a subcompact crossover are really in luck. The South Korean automaker, Hyundai-Kia, have been preparing the presentation of the new subcompact crossover that looks really beautiful and modern the more we look at the new spy shots. This car is expected to be called Kia Stonic and it has recently been photographed in Germany.
We recently got the word that Kia has trademarked this name in the US, however, there is no update from Hyundai. We don’t know where they stand in this deal.
If you look at these spy photos, you’ll notice some catchy details of the test car. The lights are a big deal here. The headlights and taillights have been modified in accordance with the Kia’s latest styling trend, and now they look dangerously attractive.
The South Korean automaker even took another step with modifying roof rails. Some may argue that it is not worth mentioning but pay attention to how this teardrop-style just simply makes them more prominent and noticeable.
It is predicted that this upcoming model will give you a better and more refined driving experience unlike the KX3 B-segment crossover available in China. This vehicle will have the same underpinnings like the 2017 Kia Rio. One of the features worth mentioning are the 17-inch wheels (as seen on the prototype).
This Kia is placed in the similar segment like the Renault Captur that, for example, will be one of its fiercest rivals, it is split between models that are available in front-wheel drive form only and those that are available with an all-wheel-drive setup like Mazda CX-3. However, Kia has not yet released an official statement on which side they will pick.
When it comes to engines, they will feature downsized units which indicate that the range will feature a turbocharged 1.0-liter three cylinder mill able to produce a max of 120 hp for you. However, Europe market will be richer for an option of 1.4 CRDi turbocharged diesel unit.
2018 Kia Stonic Release Date
We mentioned that there will be a special model for Europe but don’t worry, this is a project that will be globally developed. We expect its debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show later this year in September. When it comes to the US, we could see this car as soon as November at the LA Auto Show.
