Opel, a German automaker, has been doing a lot of work on few of their vehicles. Insignia mid-sizer is being redesigned, and recently we had the opportunity to see both Sports Tourer wagon and Grand Sport fastback sedan. Another car worth mentioning is the Country soft-roader which we’ve acquired photos of.
This Opel Insignia Country Tourer is facing the opposition in Audi A4 Allroad, Subaru Outback, and Volvo V60 Cross Country. However, this model is not expected to be available in the US, but at least Sports Tourer and Grand Sport will make their debut at the same time with Buick Regal and Regal TourX.
Moving on, we can conclude from these photos that the Country Tourer has prominent wheel arches and taller ride height. Taking that its ground clearance is a bit bigger, we expect protective elements for the underbody. Looking at the previous model, we can predict what’s in store when it comes to the upcoming one.
Another interesting thing is that the Country Tourer will feature the latest torque vectoring all-wheel-drive system. We’ll explain what that is. That system has a pair of electronically controlled clutch packs on each side of the rear drive unit. What that means is that torque produced by the engine will be split between the axles and also between the rear wheels. The system will monitor inputs that it gathers from vehicle sensors 100 times per second and adjust the car to best suit the given conditions. We think that this feature is great and strongly aids driver on the road, especially in slippery conditions.
When it comes to powertrain, we believe that the most likely option will be a turbocharged 2.0-liter inline-4 which produces 256 horsepower. The Country Tourer will debut later this year. Until then, stay tuned and enjoy these photos.
