As you probably know by now, everybody is expecting for Microsoft to finalize the Windows 10 Creators Update which is supposed to happen in the next few days and start selecting a release candidate which should make its way to Windows Insiders from next week.
The final update is expected to find its way to all Windows 10 users starting from next month, and it will be released for the PC first and sometime later for all other devices. Most importantly it is going to bring us a wide range of new features and improvements to the OS, and some of them include:
– An overhauled interface for sharing content
– App folders on the PC Start menu
– Improvements to the Edge browser, including blocking Flash content by default
– Gaming enhancements, including a new PC Game Mode, and built-in Beam streaming
– New accessibility features, including support for braille
– New management and security tools for IT professionals, along with other security enhancements
– Improved privacy features, including a new setup experience
– Greater control over Windows updates,
… and this is just a small portion of what exactly is to be expected from improvements and additions that Microsoft is making to Windows 10 in the Creators Update. The other thing with the Creators Update for Windows 10 is that while a lot will be added, you can expect that Windows will end development for some features and entirely remove others from the OS.
The company releases the list of removed and depreciated features in the Creators Update and it explains: “The following features and functionalities in the Windows 10 Creators Update edition have either been withdrawn from the product in the current release (“Removed”) or are not in active development. They are planned for potential removal in subsequent releases (“Deprecated”). This list is intended for IT professionals who are updating operating systems in a commercial environment. The plan and list are subject to change and may not include every deprecated feature or functionality.”
Removed features
– By default, Flash autorun in Edge is turned off. Use the Click-to-Run (C2R) option instead. (This setting can be changed by the user.)
– Interactive Service Detection Service
– Microsoft Paint for languages that are not on the full localization list
– NPN support in TLS (superseded by ALPN)
– Windows Information Protection “AllowUserDecryption” policy
– WSUS for Windows Mobile, updates are being transitioned to the new Unified Update Platform (UUP)
Deprecated features
– Apndatabase.xml is being replaced by the COSA database. Therefore, some constructs will no longer function. This includes Hardware ID, incoming SMS messaging rules in mobile apps, a list of privileged apps in mobile apps, autoconnect order, APN parser, and CDMAProvider ID.

As it could be expected, some of the features that were announced in the first news regarding the Windows 10 Creators Update did not make the cut. Apparently for unknown reasons the new My People communications experience on PCs has been dropped for now, and the Night Light and improvements to Continuum announced for Creators Update for Windows 10 Mobile devices seems very unlikely, as well. These two together with some other features (such as the Project Neon design overhaul) will probably arrive with the Redstone 3 update towards the end of 2017. The good news is that the builds from the Redstone 3 development branch have already been compiled internally and it is expected that the first RS3 Insider Preview will be available before the end of next month.
