Free Agent linebacker DeMarcus Ware decided to hang up the cleats today. He is 34 years of age and has played for the Dallas Cowboys and Denver Broncos. In total, he spent 12 years in the National Football League of which he was a member of the Cowboys for nine seasons, while he spent his last three years playing with the Broncos.
He is likely going to end up in the Hall of Fame as he has recorded 138,5 sacks in his 12-year career, which is pretty impressive. He has been one of the best defensive players in the NFL over the past dozen years. Ware was one of the premier pass-rushers in the NFL for all these years and rushing the quarterback was what he had been known for.
Ware decided to leave the Cowboys in Free Agency before the 2014 season started. He began to age and wasn’t as effective as he was in his peak days. Still, he ended up giving a nice boost to Broncos’ defense and was one of the best defenders on that Super Bowl 50 winning Denver Broncos team.
“After a lot of thought and prayer, I’ve decided to accept the unknown and retire from my NFL career,” Ware stated on Twitter. “Tempting opportunities still present themselves for me to play and I feel better than I have in years. However, long-term health and quality of life outweigh the spark and passion for playing that I once had.”
Ware also used Twitter to thank all the people helped him become a player and a man that he is now. Finally, he thanked Cowboys and Broncos for “opportunities to experience what greatness looks like.”
