Google Inc (GOOG) Working On Tablet With 3D Capabilities

Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOGL) (NASDAQ:GOOG) is in the process of developing a new tablet 7-inches in size and with the capability of capturing 3-D images. The company has plans for producing 4000 prototypes of these starting early next month as informed by the Wall Street Journal that cited few people, who gave a briefing on the company’s plans.

Google launched a prototype earlier

This device will be launched by Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOGL) (NASDAQ:GOOG) as a part of its Advanced Technology and under the project group ‘Project Tango.’ This device is reported to comprise features such as two back cameras, infrared depth sensors and a software that is so advanced that it can capture images of objects that are three dimensional and absolutely precise as per the newspaper information.

The publication, also, informed that in the month of February, a prototype smartphone, which is the flagship product of the project, was released having sensors similar to the upcoming 3D tablet and is designed in such a manner that it creates a map of user’s surroundings that is three dimensional.

The device will be able to measure depth related data, distance of objects inside the room, whether the objects are stationary or are in motion and the space occupied by them. Movidius Myriad 1 is a customised vision processor that supports such tasks. Myriad 1 is a one-of-its-kind low-powered companion chip and somewhat similar to Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) M7 chipset.

Project Tango from Google

‘Project Tango’ by Google will provide the Android OS based phones and tablets with a platform designed to track the device’s 3-dimensional motion in full, when held by the user. At the same time, it will, also, create a map of the surrounding environment of the user as informed by the WSJ.

Talking about its new Advanced Technology, Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOGL) (NASDAQ:GOOG) said earlier, “What if you could capture the dimensions of your home simply by walking around with your phone before you went furniture shopping? What if directions to a new location didn’t stop at the street address? What if you never again found yourself lost in a new building?”

Seeing the customers inclination towards accessing the web on the go, not only Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOGL) (NASDAQ:GOOG), but other companies too that are traditionally non-hardware are trying to make place for themselves in the mobile devices arena. Examples include Amazon.com and Microsoft Corporation.
