After a lot of speculations in the past seven or eight months about what is going to happen with Tony Romo, it seems that we are pretty close to getting an answer. There has been a lot of talk about the quarterback situation in the Big D and people were wondering if Romo is going to regain his starting spot.
He has been sitting on the bench all season long as he got injured in the preseason and Dak Prescott has taken over the helm. This guy has been nothing short of sensational in his rookie yea and has proven to be on Romo’s level. In some people’s opinion, he was even better than Tony. But, there is one big difference between the two. Romo’s cap hit is over 24 millions of dollars. Prescott’s? Well, his cap hit is just a bit over 600k dollars.
This is the main reason why Dallas has decided to part ways with Tony Romo as they can’t afford to pay their backup quarterback that much. Free agency is coming up, and it was believed that Dallas franchise is going to use this to deal with Romo. The Cowboys were thought that are willing to try and use that money so they can buffer that defense most likely and this would probably give them a decent amount of space to work with. In the end, they have opted not to release Tony.
Tony Romo, on the other hand, will not be a free agent as it was expected but will nonetheless have his options open. Maybe this is the best move for him and the Cowboys as they will now together going to decide his faith, faith of the Cowboys and faith of his future franchise. In a case of trade, his best options are the Houston Texans and Denver Broncos. It’s most likely that he is going to end up on one of these two teams, but we wouldn’t exclude the option of him staying in Dallas.
