We got used to the traditional style of Volkswagen vehicles and to be honest there haven’t been any exciting models for years. They offer quality cars but nothing too shiny and breathtaking. We might seem a bit harsh with these words, but no vehicle from this German car maker has been something different except maybe for the Volkswagen CC. Well, guess what, the company just revealed the next generation, and it will make an official debut at the Geneva Motor Show 2017.
The original name of this car is ‘Arteon’ however it has been a practice that US models bear different monikers. It will probably be called ‘CC’ again. It is speculated that this one will be presented in 2018 as a 2019 model for the US. Even though CC doesn’t strike us as a popular model in America because of its previous (lack of) fame, it will have giant shoes to fill since it will replace Phaeton as a flagship sedan of VW.
The render of the new 2018 Volkswagen Arteon was revealed two years ago, and it was a sign of new, modern and futuristic designs of the Volkswagen trademark. The body panels have a different shape, and at the back, there are more horizontal lines that will make you feel the exact width of the car. What’s most important is the grille modification. The grille’s horizontal slats are integrated with the internals of the LED headlights.
But if all of that isn’t enough of a change for potential buyers, VW added an R-Line package that will give it a sportier look. This package includes custom wheels and bumpers and a set of sporty items that are added to the interior.
When it comes to the cabin, this model doesn’t stand out much from its predecessors. But, the company offers a brand new infotainment system with gesture control and a digital instrument cluster. These are optional, and they’ll probably set you back for a few thousand bucks. Already mentioned ‘gesture control system’ reacts to a swipe of your hand allowing you to adjust menu items making your life easier. You will be able to focus on the road and scroll through options with ease at the same time.
Another thing worth mentioning is the adaptive cruise control system which gathers data such as speed limits or route information. This means that it will possibly adjust speed according to the both road conditions and signs. The headlights will have a possibility of predicting a corner via GPS, it will also find all the tricky bends so as to make life easier for you. As a result, you will get better visibility and more control over the vehicle. This car will also have an emergency stop system which will automatically pull over on the side of the road if the computer suspects that driver has fallen asleep or passed out.
When it comes to storage and space, this car is using Golf’s flexible MQB platform. The overall length of the Arteon is 191.4 inches, and it has a wheelbase of 119 inches. This is a win-win situation since the current version of CC is 189 inches long but has only 107 inches of wheelbase. According to Volkswagen, there is 55 cubic feet of storage when maxed out which is a quite good result in the segment.
Power-wise the Arteon will come with approximately six options. Buyers who opt for the most powerful one will have a vehicle that produces 276 hp. Customers will also have two more options when buying. They can either choose front-wheel drive or all-wheel-drive. When it comes to transmission, it will include 6-speed manual and 7-speed dual clutch units.
