The Subaru Crosstrek is a popular vehicle as it was sold in 95,000 units last year, while the total number of Subaru sales reached 615,000. In order to maintain the winning streak, the new redesigned Crosstrek that comes from the Japanese AWD master will be based on the same architecture as the regular Impreza. The 2018 Subaru Crosstrek has been introduced at this year’s Geneva Motor Show.
This crossover will mostly look like the Impreza, but the difference is that it will have a slightly longer wheelbase, while the front and rear overhangs are going to be shorter. This probably means that the 2018 model will be more spacious, but the size of the vehicle will remain the same.
Because of the shorter overhangs, the 2018 Subaru Crosstrek will be easier to maneuver in crowded cities. The exterior design is not the only thing borrowed from the Impreza – the Crosstrek also steals its 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay, whereas the materials in the cabin will be better compared to the last year’s version.
Engine
From now on, the 2.0-liter flat-4 engine that is located under the hood of the Crosstrek will be connected to the CVT instead of a six-speed manual Subaru used. Due to some engine modifications, the output has jumped from 148 to 154 horsepower, while all-wheel drive is standard. The 2018 model is expected to be quieter than the previous one, but even if the company manages to make the car more silent, driving it will still be a noisy experience.
Since the Impreza earned the Top Safety Pick+ by IIHS, it comes to no surprise that the one we are talking about is also expected to return a similar result. To further push the safety level it received the enhanced EyeSight safety package as a standard feature. The body of the new Subaru’s model will be more rigid, and its center of gravity has been lowered, while the active front headlights move in harmony with the steering wheel. All of this should be enough for the new model to earn the Top Safety Pick+ and follow in Impreza footsteps.
It remains unknown when the 2018 Subaru Crosstrek will be launched in the US, so stay tuned for more details.
