Dagashi Kashi is a TV adaptation of what was a Japanese comedy-romance manga series of the same name. It debuted on January 8th, 2016 on TBS after which it was broadcasted on CBC, SUN, and other Japanese channels. It is directed by Shigehito Takayanagi and developed by the “Feel” studios.
This anime series grew very popular very fast with viewers, and that is confirmed by the MyAnimeList as this comedy-romance anime has received an average score of 7.3 out of 10 which is based on over 86.000 user votes. On the FUNimation website (licensed to simulcast in NA) viewers gave this anime a rating of four out of five stars.
To those of you who are not familiar with it, the show revolves around a character that goes by the name of Kokonotsu Shikada who lives with his father in a countryside. His father owns a small sweet store which was in their possession for generations, and naturally, Yo (the father) wants Kokonotsu to inherit the business, while Kokonotsu has other plans, he dreams of becoming a manga artist.
The show also has a heroine – successor of her very wealthy father’s empire – named Hotaru Shidare who is by the way very cheerful and most importantly addicted to sweets and snacks. When she, one day, appeared at the doors of Kokonotsu and Yo’s store she intended to attract Yo to work for her father, but she was refused because Yo thought that Kokonotsu would not take good care of the family business. Hotaru decided to stick with them both until she manages to persuade Yo one day to work for her father. She realized that the only way she will manage to do so is to convince Kokonotsu to inherit the family business so his father could accept her offer.
But this was all in Season 1 which, as we mentioned before, started January 8th, 2016 and that first season had 12 episodes. It was aired until April 1st, 2016, and so far we do not have any confirmation whether the sequel might happen or not. “Feel” studios haven’t yet announced any of their plans for the series as well, but we and every fan out there sure does hope that the Season 2 might actually happen because there are few more things that have to be answered.
