Everybody who watched Oscar at last on Sunday saw that Disney’s last witty story named Zootopia which turned out to be a box-office smash hit won the Oscar for the best animated feature. Those of you who saw it already know, but for those who hadn’t you must not miss it. Zootopia is an animated story of a rabbit that lived in the countryside and a city slicker fox that somehow teams up together to resolve the issue of disappearing animals.
The plot of the movie is based around Judy Hopps, Zootopia Police Department’s (only) bunny cop, who tries with every atom of her body to fight the stereotypes about her species so she can rightfully earn that spot in the police force. Set of (fortunate) circumstances bring her closer to Nick Wilde who is basically totally opposite of her – a sly, scam artist of a fox fighting against his own species’ – and she enlists him to help her solve the case of the missing animals for which they have 48 hours.

After winning the best animated feature the film’s co-director, Byron Howard stated: “We got this idea about five and a half, six years ago to talk about bias with talking animals” and the reason behind this, according to Byron, is the fact that animals prevent audiences from pre-judging the characters.
He also added “Aesop knew this hundreds of years ago and it was something that animation is very uniquely equipped to do. We were surprised by how timely the film became as the world sort of blew up.” Co-director Rich Moore thanked the audience for embracing a “story of tolerance being more powerful than fear of the other.”
Before the Oscars Zootopia was considered a very serious contender, even a front-runner, in the animation category mainly thanks to the fact that it took home six trophies at the Annie Awards and a Golden Globe, plus it earned more than $1 billion at the box office. An interesting statement came from Dave Hollis, Disney’s executive vice president of distribution, who said that Zootopia is just another one “renaissance” piece of Disney Animation group that already includes Tangled, Frozen, Big Hero 6 and Wreck-It Ralph.
Hollis also stated, “There is consistency at a really high level of delivering great stories, amazing worlds, and characters who people can relate to” with which he acknowledged that “Zootopia” is an all-audience film. This is, even more, thanks to the fact that it featured a truly all-star vocal cast that includes Jason Bateman, Ginnifer Goodwin, Shakira, Idris Elba, J.K. Simmons, Jenny Slate and Octavia Spencer.
It is also fair to mention other nominees for the same category, and they were – Kubo and the Two Strings, Moana, The Red Turtle and My Life as a Zucchini.
Continuation of our favorite bunny, Judy Hopps, and her recently promoted cop friend, Nick Wilde (fox), adventures will be available in Zootopia 2 that is scheduled fo release during the next year.
