Great news for all sci-fi series fans – Cleverman Season 2 will be released sometime this year. While it can take a lot for some shows to be announced for renewal, Cleverman fans have been spared the tension of the wait and already know there will be the second season. We realize how many broadcast networks tend to spend much time thinking whether some show should or should not be renewed, so this announcement came as a lovely surprise.
Namely, Cleverman is a freshman sci-fi drama, so no one expected for it to be officially confirmed for renewal so soon, but SundanceTV decided to take a risk. They announced this news after the premiere day in the US and before it premiered in Australia.
The first season consists of 6 episodes, and its story follows an Aboriginal folk hero. He has a superpower to heal and to see into the future. When it comes to the cast of the show, it stars Iain Glen, whom we are watching in Game of Thrones, Frances O’Connor, who starred in The Missing, Rob Collins from The Lion King and Hunter Page-Lochard, known for The Sapphires.
Cleverman Season 2 will consist of 6 episodes as well, each lasting about an hour. The series will be also released by ABC TV studios and afterward distributed worldwide by Red Arrow International. In the UK it will run on BBC Three.
Head of Scripted Production for ABC TV said that it was very rare to get the green light for a second season before the first one has finished, so this would be a proof of the quality of Cleverman. Moreover, it is a testament to the great support the show has from Screen NSW in Oz and Screen Australia, which are their funding partners, as well as from their international partners Sundance TV and Red Arrow.
