BlackBerry Ltd (NASDAQ:BBRY), the mobile manufacturer, has opened, to mobile device management (MDM) companies, BB10 operating system that they own. This will enable the Canadian firm to position itself better in the Internet of Things (IoT) market. IoT market is huge since there are a billion of devices that connect with one another on a daily basis and equally large number of customers seeks to gain information from the connected devices, infrastructure and equipment.
“AirWatch, Citrix and IBM have expressed their intent to be the first companies to work with BlackBerry to enable a more open mobility ecosystem,” BlackBerry Ltd said in a statement.
Move to boost turnaround efforts
BlackBerry Ltd (NASDAQ:BBRY) has come up with such a strategy to check the continuing losses and also accumulating funds for effectively implementing its turnaround efforts. Now, the MDM firms will be able to manage their devices directly with BB10 operating system. With the MDM it is possible for the management to take control of the mobile devices enabling locking the device and wiping data from them. Effective deployment and management of work apps is also enabled by this.
MDM companies will be granted the management of BlackBerry 10 devices, and this would help the company to provide the organizations with more options for embracing multi-operating system mobile environments.
“BlackBerry is more than just an EMM (Enterprise Mobility Management) provider or a handset provider. We are uniquely positioned to be a major player in the multi-trillion dollar Internet of Things market,” head of BlackBerry Ltd (NASDAQ:BBRY)’s global enterprise services business, John Sims said.
BlackBerry’s future plans
John Sims, who had led the mobile services business of the software major SAP in the past, said that BlackBerry is looking forward to lead in the areas such as applications, data and Internet of Things (IoT).
“With BES12 planned for late this calendar year, we will continue to support iOS, Android, Windows, BlackBerry 10 and BlackBerry OS devices,” he said.
BlackBerry Ltd (NASDAQ:BBRY) has, further, plans of introducing a new cloud version of BES12, which will be multi-tenant. This cloud version will generate more opportunities for winning customers and help maintain the leading position in the market, as informed by Sims. The top priority for IT buyers is MDM, and investment levels, in the segment, are growing steadily, as per the research firm Gartner. There is a fierce competition among players and superior quality and flexible management tools have become necessary.
Blackberry Ltd (NASDAQ:BBRY) aims at supporting a broader mobility strategy and to provide the customers with most flexible solution it is working closely with the companies.
