Google Inc (GOOG) (GOOGL) Testing Massive Redesign For Gmail

Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOG) (NASDAQ:GOOGL) is underway testing changes for Gmail desktop version, which is believed to be a significant alteration from previous user interface. The search engine giant might be adopting change to coalesce the desktop version with its mobile version, and to make Gmail friendlier for larger displays and resolutions keeping functionality of the app intact in the process.

Google planning major overhaul

A report from Geek.com suggests that there will be a brand new menu system “that flies in and out of the browser window replaces Google’s otherwise static sidebar of links — Inbox, Starred, Sent Mail, and all those.”

Another feature that would apparently vanish from the newer version is tabbed email system replaced by the “grouped in the inbox” section that will align emails according to their topics such as Travel, Purchases, Finance, Social, Updates, Forums, and Promos. However, it is not yet known whether user would be able to modify these categories.

Gmail interface would have an incorporated Hangout, and the user would probably need to tap the chat-bubble like icon on the design refresh’s upper right corner to access the sidebar allowing user to make chat and video calls.

Nothing confirmed, as of now

The newer version of Gmail could have a big “+” icon, in the lower right corner, which would have option of composing new messages and adding new reminders into Gmail. Then there will, also, be a new “pinning” system instead of “stars” system through which the users be able to mark important messages and place it on the top of their Gmail inbox. Another tab at the top of Inbox would enable users to arrange messages, and change place of the pinned items placing it on the top or ticking them back in the message display.

Russell Holly of Geek said that no date has been confirmed yet nor has there been any official word whether Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOG) (NASDAQ:GOOGL) will ever launch these features.

“With any luck most of these features will make the cut and we’ll see an all new Gmail any day now”, he said. However, the user interface reveals that Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOG) (NASDAQ:GOOGL) is excited to bring significant changes in its interface.
