Facebook Inc (NASDAQ:FB)wants more advertisers to use the site as a platform for the advertising and also wants to gain as much clicks as possible on all its ads. To achieve this goal, the social networker is trying to tap into small businesses market, which is quite lucrative.
To reach out to the small businesses, Facebook has planned a campaign called Facebook Fit, under which it will conduct workshops in five cities of its choice, where it will educate the owners of small business on the basic practical details of effectively using Facebook as a marketing tool.
Informing businesses holds the key
Facebook’s operating Chief, Sheryl Sandberg, who is also an author at ‘Lean In’; believe making the small business owners aware how they can acquire more customers with Facebook advertising, is the key. All they need to do is create a Facebook page and buy ads customized for them. These ads will later appear on the individual pages of Facebook users.
“They don’t have enough customers. This is their No. 1 problem and we can help them solve it,” Sandberg said in an interview with The Associated Press.
Facebook’s target customers are those companies, who do not have enough time and resources for maintaining and regularly updating their pages and ads at a desktop PC. The social networking company has updated its technology so that the business owners can easily use it on any device, even mobile phones, which was not possible 2 years back, said Sandberg.
Small businesses to help in competing with Google
Greg Sterling an analyst with a mobile technology research service Internet2Go believe digital companies like Facebook Inc (NASDAQ:FB)and Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOG) (NASDAQ:GOOGL) have not been able to reach out well to the small business market. There are many owners of small business, who have Facebook pages created for their businesses, but are not ready to advertise on the site. This is limiting the company’s revenues to much lower levels than what it could be if small businesses use it for advertising.
“Many of them are struggling just to provide regular content updates or to understand how to use social media, let alone become masters of social media advertising,” Sterling said.
Facebook will need to get more small business customers, who choose to advertise with the social networking company so that it is able to stay competitive with Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOG) (NASDAQ:GOOGL). Small business owners should be able to see Facebook Inc (NASDAQ:FB) as a strong partner that will bring mutual benefits as told by an analyst working with a digital research company eMarketer.
