Going into the Elimination Chamber pay per view event, it was believed that Alexa Bliss would retain her Smackdown Women’s Championship and go to the Wrestlemania 33 as a champion. But, WWE gave us a surprise and gave the title to Naomi instead. This is her first reign with the title in the company, and she definitely deserves at least one run with it.
The main reason behind giving her the title was the fact that this years’ Wrestlemania is in Orlando, her hometown, and the organization felt that she would be the best choice for going into the grandest stage of them all as the Women’s champion.
Originally, the title wasn’t supposed to be defended at Wrestlemania. Women on Smackdown were scheduled to have some sort of tag-team match in Orlando, but it seems that those plans were changed. They will still probably get some kind of a tag match on the pre-show, but it looks like that Smackdown Women’s Title will also be defended. As a babyface, and a hometown fan favorite, Naomi will get a great reaction from the crowd when she enters that ring, and the match could really use some crowd involvement.
More people in the stands will care about the match that will determine the women’s champion of the blue brand now when Naomi is going into the Wrestlemania as a champion. Alexa Bliss will likely be the one that challenges her, and we should expect that she gets her title back.
