Well, isn’t this a bad luck?! Once again Avatar fans all over the world have to wait for at least a year or two before they relive the James Cameron’s Pandora centered story once again. This is something you know, but it can’t hurt to repeat, the Avatar movie came in 2009 and ever since we first saw it we fell in love and it was the love at first sight. Love towards the film as much as love towards the main characters Sam Worthington and Zoe Saldana.
But now let’s get back to the sequel. We could hear many rumors and reports about the possibility for this one to be offered and one of the latest pieces of info came thanks to Exhibitor Relations and their tweet that was released last year in November and it wrote: “UNTITLED FOX/LIGHTSTORM FILM will drop December 21, 2018.” Now the Exhibitor Relations didn’t specifically mention the title Avatar 2, but many of you out there (especially fans) know that the Lightstorm is the name of James Cameron’s production company that earlier produced Avatar. And besides that one more thing is the same as it was with the first part and that is the distribution company that will be 20th Century Fox.
There was also a recent report from the Independent that stated that the production of Avatar movie is well under way and that the lead actors will very soon start off with the motion capture in a second stage. NME not so long ago reported that James Cameron himself way back in 2010 announced that after the great success of the Avatar they are planning a lot of sequels. But unfortunately, after that press conference, the production of the next installment has been delayed for different reasons. The first delay happened because the director and the screenplay writers had a plan to make the 2009 movie into a trilogy but somewhere down the road, two additional films have been added that now make a total of five sequels.
This recent info about the release date that is supposed to be December 2018 is very doubtful, at least in the eyes of actress Sigourney Weaver (played Dr. Grace Augustine). She stated for the Hollywood Reporter “We haven’t started it, so I don’t know how realistic that date is, but I think it’s going to be very exciting.” But lets put aside all the delays, for just a second because according to Sam Worthington new upcoming parts of the Avatar franchise are “something quite special.” Apparently, Sam was caught in NYC promoting its new movie The Shack, and when he was asked about the Avatar 2, he stated that it will be “nothing we’ve ever seen,” and that it just might be bigger than the first one trying to tell the story of a family.
Sam’s statement: “They’re going to be shooting concurrently. The plan is to have some time in between, I think, but these things are always ambiguous until they start. We’re still set to start in the summer, though. James needed time to perfect the scripts. Whenever he says jump I go because he’s the man. I’ve read all the scripts, they’re great. This is going to be Jake eight years later, and he’s got a family now. This film is going to be like nothing you’ve ever seen. The world is bigger than the first one, but essentially, it’s a movie about family. Jake will still have that essence of a kid seeing the world for the first time, but he’s been living in the world for a while now, so what’s this world he’s seeing now for the first time? The film will explore that within this family dynamic.”
Stephen Lang, 64, who played Colonel Miles Quaritch and is set to reprise his role recently spoke regarding the Avatar 2 and stated “As the New Year turns, we start to shoot for the Avatar sequels. I think that the whole process of making the films and opening the films will go to about 2024.” This is quite strange since we were able to see him being pierced with two huge arrows, so it seems that something sketchy has been prepared for us. With this much guessing and different statements it is really hard to predict when this cinematic wonder will hit the big screens, so we won’t even try. We will let the time do its work and wait for some actual and full-proof info.
