Apple’s iPhone X Is Coming In 2017

There is a lot of speculation about the next flagship smartphone coming from Apple, and we will show you how it may look. You can call the new iPhone however you want – “iPhone 8”, or “10th anniversary iPhone” or even the “iPhone X” as it is referred to by some Wall Street analysts. The X in the name signifies the number ten, and while we are debating about the name here, the expectations for the new iPhone are increasing every minute.

The new flagship device will come with an organic light-emitting diode display or better known as OLED, according to Raymond Soneira, who is an expert for screens and the head of DisplayMate Technologies. He published a report about Apple’s future phone, and in his report he said:

“Most of the iPhone 8 OLED hardware display [specifications] will undoubtedly be very similar to the OLED displays on Galaxy Note7, and particularly the upcoming Galaxy S8.”

The OLED display is better than the liquid crystal displays (LCDs) in some important segments, and if Apple were to install this type of screen, it would be the first time to see it on a product of this company. Soneira told Fox News: “At least in 2017, everyone’s essentially using the same hardware,” referring to the fact that Samsung supplies OLED smartphone displays and that Apple would be forced to use Samsung’s units in the future. Soneira is backed up by Asia-based market research analysts on this one.

OLED display is complex, and if Apple plans to use it, they will have to change electronics and the batteries, while some of the mechanical changes are necessary as well. Moreover, the software tied to the display needs to be written again. However, with the new OLED units, Apple can set itself apart from the rivals. Soneira also said: “It will be particularly interesting to see how all the Smartphone manufacturers will differentiate their similar OLED display hardware with differing and innovative software and firmware.”

This year, we expect to see only one iPhone with OLED display, and the reason for this will be Samsung’s inability to supply millions of screens that Apple needs for its models. The Samsung will have to adjust because they will have to create and sell an additional number of units to other large customers from now on, while they will still have to continue putting the display on the Galaxy phones.

According to Soneira, the future OLED iPhone might look like this: “With a curved screen OLED, the iPhone display will almost certainly be bezel and border free to the outside edges, and fill all or almost all of the entire front view edge-to-edge.”

He continued: “With rumors predicting that the home button, fingerprint sensor, ambient light and proximity sensors will be incorporated into the display. What’s going to make an OLED phone shine is all of the fancy software, firmware, and OS (operating system) stuff that make the phone useful and nice to use.”
