Ford recently participated in the NHTSA crash testing, and with its new 2017 Ford F-250 Super Duty Crew Cab managed to snag a 5 star, which is pretty much the best possible rating, for the overall crash test. As we mentioned on this NHTSA crash test the center stage was taken by 2017 F-250 Crew Cab 4×2, and when you compare this one to the results of the 2016 model, the previous version had slightly worse result, achieving 4 stars overall – 4 stars in frontal testing, 5 in side impact, and 4 in rollover. The other two 2016 iterations – the Supercab and Regular cab did even worse and received only 3 stars in both frontal and rollover tests.

It is apparent that Ford made additional effort to improve the 2017 version to 5 stars in every aspect, but it is important for us to tell you that the only one mentioned by Ford, that achieved these results, is the Crew Cab 4×2 model. This is important because we do not want to make you confused. We really do not know if the Ford company managed to improve the entire lineup of the 2017 F-250 for these type of tests or is it just this one. Since this is somewhat related news, it is important to remind you that Ford also managed to earn a 5-star overall rating from NHTSA back in April of 2015, and it did that with its 2015 F-150 SuperCrew pickup.

As you probably know all of the Ford lineup members are newer than the competitors from Ram or GM. GM’s Silverado 1500 started sales slightly before the end of 2013 as a 2014 model year while the Ram is much older, being introduced in late 2008 as a 2009 model year. Why is this important and why are we mentioning this? Well, simply because the general rule of these test is that the newer vehicles are going to past them much easier, and perform far better because the testing regimes get stricter with every passing year. Thanks to that fact we have Ford bragging about this particular Super Duty that grabbed the highest NHTSA ratings ever in New Car Assessment Program testing. But, there is always but at the end. We will still have to wait and see if all other versions of the Super Duty Series can achieve a similar score or potentially equal it.
