Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOG) might be prepping to offer the Android users with the facility of searching the content inside the apps using search app. As of now, the search app is only available for data collected from websites and cannot be used to look inside apps like Wikipedia or Flixter.
However, Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOG) is working to overcome this limitation with a feature called “app indexing” announced last year, in October, to allow app makers to connect their app to Google search engine.
App indexing to enhance user experience
Once the app developers integrate app indexing the user can find the relevant search results linked to the app on the web page of a Google search along with the normal web links. The difference will be that the app link will open in the relevant app instead of opening in a web browser, once the app is clicked.
Lawrence Chang, a Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOG) product manager posted in a blog, “Wouldn’t it be cool if you could give your users the choice of viewing your content either on the website or via your app, both straight from Google’s search results.” Chang said that the company is delighted to reveal a new feature in Google search known as app indexing that will use the webmasters to create a hassle free user experience across website and mobile apps.
Also, Chaesang Jung, a software engineer with Google illustrated the capability of app indexing in movie searching, where Google would start to include deep links to apps in Android search results. The moment user click on the ‘open in app’ deep links the app opens up directly to the movie in question.
U.S. users to get it first
The search engine giant is already working in close collaboration with various app makers including those to operate AllTheCooks, AllTrails, Beautylish, Etsy, Expedia, Flixster, Healthtap, IMDb, moviefone, newegg, OpenTable, Trulia, and Wikipedia apps. Also, the company is looking forward to integrate more app developers to join the app indexing program. Android user in the United States will be able to use the app indexing feature first.
Google will have immense benefits once the new feature is launched along with many benefits to the users. Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOG) is the Numero Uno in the web service all over the world clinching more than 70% share in the worldwide web search market, and also gets a major share of the revenue through web advertising. However, it has still to go a long way in the mobile market.
