The 2017 Detroit Auto Show has ended, and there were some beautiful cars, but also some that were not so pleasant to see. Here is the list of vehicles that definitely turned some heads as well as those that failed to do so.
The Best
The Infiniti QX50 Concept comes with a new design language that is just amazing, while the combination of silver, gray and brown gives this compact crossover a tremendous finishing touch. The production car will be equipped with the modern variable-compression turbocharged engine and a great number of semi-autonomous technologies. Looking at the QX50 Concept only arouses the desire to see the production version as soon as possible.
2018 Kia Stinger
Some of the people didn’t like the new 2018 Kia Stinger, but the majority seemed to love it. As you can see in the subtitle, Kia’s new car will be named the Stinger, and this hatchback boasts style. Bi-turbo V6 engine powers this RWD vehicle and it is estimated that the Stinger will be an affordable hatch.
The 2018 Lexus LS is the perfect example of what this carmaker is all about. The vehicle combines attractiveness and aggressiveness, with the good-looking front grille and zigzag headlights. The platform of the LS is the same as the one of the LC coupe, while under the hood Lexus decided to put the new bi-turbo V6 with the output of 415 horses, instead of the less powerful V8.
Singer
This is the first time we have to see Michelin and Singer working together and Michelin brought the Monaco and London cars to the show. The two vehicle have been presented to the public for the first time and on the Porsche 911s look stunning with the visible love and attention to detail from Singer Vehicle Design.
What Audi Q8 E-Tron Concept brings to the table is personality. This concept is a preview to a production vehicle that is already being tested, and the first thing we noticed was the sky-blue color. Besides the fantastic paint job, the concept looks aggressive but refined at the same time, and this is the plug-in hybrid that definitely drew attention in Detroit. The concept is interesting because it has no door handles, something that will surely be changed on the production model.
The Worst
American Automakers
Although it was held in Detroit, the American Carmakers were surprisingly quiet. Yes, the 2018 Ford F-150 was presented, but at the press conference the company announced the production of some future models and talked about mobility. FCA also displayed the semi-autonomous all electric Portal concept at CES, but Buick, Lincoln, and Cadillac showed us nothing. People like vehicles across the pond, but they are also interested in domestic production.
Chevy showed its new Traverse to the public and midsize is definitely no longer a suitable name for this guy. The 2018 Traverse is massive, and it is bigger than the Tahoe, but besides that, nothing new was presented. Cabin, technology inside, and even the engine options remained the same, so with nothing new to offer, the future of this vehicle is not so bright.
Exotic Cars
Supercars are usually not unveiled in Detroit and even those that decided to come in the last few years are giving up on this show. For example, Porsche talked about its new 911 GTS, but it wasn’t displayed this year, while Bentley’s new Continental Supersport didn’t have a stand and it was shown at an offsite event the day before. There were no exotics like Lamborghini, McLaren or Ferrari. What a shame.
What is good about the 2018 GMC Terrain is the addition of turbocharged engines and a diesel unit, but that is about it. This updated model looks frumpy, and there is a weird floating roofline that speaks for itself (in a negative way). Not to mention the gear shifters which look like window switches.
Volkswagen I.D Buzz Concept
The reason why this is one of the worsts is not its looks. On the contrary, the Buzz Concept looks fantastic – it is really attractive and has a futuristic design, but we have seen this bus before in the form of the Bulli and the Budd-e. We would like if Volkswagen stopped producing concepts and focused on the production of the bus.
