When the Houston Texans gave Brock Osweiler that big contract in the offseason to lure him to Texas and drive him away from Denver, they expected much more than they got in the regular season. He played so poorly that Bill O’Brien decided that Tom Savage was actually a better option than their 72-million-dollar-man.
Tom Savage then went down so Texans needed to put Brock in and hope for the best. He had to step up in a Playoff game against an inferior team without their starting quarterback. Or even their backup guy in that position. Texans are always leaning on their defense to get the job done, and they did the same this time as well. The final score of the match was 27:14 in favor of the home team. At times, the Raiders really struggled to move the chains. They have shown some flashes, but it was far from enough.
Their only hope in this duel was Brock Osweiler putting his crew in a bad position with his picks and poor throws. Well, he didn’t make a single one on Saturday. He also didn’t blow anybody away with his numbers as he went 14/25 for 169 yards and a TD. But, that is what this squad needs from him.
Osweiler just needs to complete a few passes, maybe one big play and to be efficient when it comes to converting on third downs.
Unless Miami wins in Pittsburgh, Texans will go to Foxboro in the Divisional Round. In Week 3 they failed to score a single point against New England. They’ll need a much better performance from Brock Osweiler if they want to have a shot in that game.
