Honda decided to recall a total of 641,600 Odyssey minivans because of the problems with the second-row seat latches. The seats in the second row are supposed to tilt and slide, but the mechanism that should allow these movements cannot lock properly. In order to fix this problem, the carmaker will insert additional slide springs and brackets, which will increase mechanism torque allowing it to stay in its position without any problems.
The repairs will start in spring 2017 since Honda needs to recall so many vehicles. The owners should receive a recall letter in February and later on, the owners will get to know when the new components are ready to be installed. Until this happens, they should manually lock the seat into “position by pushing down on the horizontal position adjustment bar,” according to Honda.
The Odyssey minivans, 7,600 of them to be precise, have issues with the second-row center seat latch. The problem here is that the mechanism might not work after the adjustment handle has been released. The person who is sitting here might suffer from some minor injuries, but there are no reports of injuries from this issue.
The 2015 and 2016 Odyssey models were already recalled earlier in 2016, and the reason was a possible fuel leak. However, only 39 vehicles had this problem with insufficient weld on the tank, so this recall was not that big of a deal. The next-gen Odyssey will be presented at the 2017 North American International Auto Show in Detroit(naias) in January.
