The new 2017 Volkswagen Multivan will have a power tailgate and button-operated electric sliding doors as a part of the standard equipment, and the reason for this is that great majority of the buyers who opted for the base trim added these options anyway. So, the German automaker decided to include these as standard mostly because it will speed up the process of deliveries, but the price of the van has risen by $3,000.
The Volkswagen Multivan was updated in August 2016, and these are just some running changes. Carlos Santos, Volkswagen Australia Commercial Vehicles director, said: “Electric sliding doors standard across the range is something you won’t get in the Mercedes-Benz Valente, Kia Carnival or Hyundai iMax,”

Moreover, he added: “Our buyers redefined the price point. They all wanted electric sliding doors, were queueing up to pay the optional cost, but they didn’t like having to wait for their order. We’ve removed that imposition… the waiting period for Multivan is drastically reduced.”
The base trim is called Multivan Comfortline, and the short-wheelbase TDI340 DSG version costs $52,990, whereas the long-wheelbase model’s starting price is $57,990. Compared to its rivals, it will be slightly more expensive, and one of the leaders in this segment is the Kia Carnival SLi diesel. On the other hand, it will still cost $5,000 less than the Mercedes-Benz Valente 2.1.
The sales of the Multivan has increased by 25 percent, and 875 units have been sold this year. The Volkswagen market share of 7.9 percent is good for the fourth place behind the Carnival, Honda Odyssey, and iMax. Follow us for more details.
