When the 2016 Cadillac CT6 hit the market earlier this year, it brought so many novelties. First of all, the 2016 model was the first one to use the name CT, which stands for Cadillac Touring. In addition, this full-size luxury sedan featured a new grille, which had never been seen on any Cadillac before. Furthermore, it was based on the Omega RWD platform, whereas the video-streaming rearview mirror also debuted on this model. So, what the new 2017 Cadillac CT6 brings to the table?
The brand new model also comes with some upgrades that one Cadillac had never featured. The biggest surprise may be that the new CT6 could be introduced with a Plug-In Hybrid powertrain. Cadillac has never had a plug-in variant before. So, now you are probably wondering what’s up with the ELR? Well, the Cadillac ELR was an extended-range electric vehicle, so it’s a slightly different story. Hybrid will be assembled in China and then shipped to the USA whereas the other CT6 models are all produced in Detroit.
The Plug-In Hybrid – Engine
Under the hood of the plug-in hybrid, you can find a turbocharged 2.0-liter I4 engine. This unit is combined with two electric motors which are supplied from 18.4-kilowatt-hour lithium-ion battery pack. The power is sent to the rear wheels whereas the all-wheel-drive is not available for this model. The engine, in combination with the electric motors, produces 449 hp and according to the American automaker, the new plug-in will be able to go from 0-60 mph in just 5.2 seconds while traveling about 30 miles using the electric power only.
2017 Cadillac CT6 – Powertrain
There will be several engine options for the regular CT6. First of all, the turbocharged 2.0-liter I4 that that is located in the hybrid can also be found here. The only difference is that in the standard guise it delivers 265 hp. Secondly, the customers can also opt for a 3.6-liter V6 naturally aspirated unit rated at 335 hp. Last but not least, you can get the 2017 Cadillac CT6 with a powerful twin-turbo 3.0-liter V6 powerplant that is good for 404 hp. All of these engines are mated to an eight-speed automatic gearbox. The I4 variant comes with an RWD whereas the two V6 engines are offered with an AWD.
Color and Features
The 2017 Cadillac CT6 will feature new colors and besides the regular paint job we had a chance to see on the 2016 version, Phantom Gray Metallic and Bronze Dune Metallic are added to the range. In addition, the rearview camera is slightly changed, and the driver will have a better view in difficult conditions or a gridlock.
The cabin of the new CT6 has some high-quality materials such as leather, wood, and carbon fiber trim. The 2017 model is well-equipped, and it sports reclining rear seats with massage function – terrific for the passengers in the backseat. Among other features, there are traffic crawling, night vision, and a parking assistant. Furthermore, the CT6 is equipped with pedestrian collision mitigation systems, 360-degree view monitoring, and some additional driver aids. The passengers can enjoy listening to high-quality sounds coming from a 34-speaker Panaray sound system from Bose.
Weight and Competitors
The 2017 Cadillac CT6 weights less than a BMW 5 Series, but it is similar to the 7 Series. The lightest CT6 weighs 3,657 pounds, and due to its lower weight, the car is agile, and the handling has been improved compared to the previous model. What is great about this one is that magnetic dampers and rear-wheel steering can be added to the car.
Some of the biggest competitors of the 2017 Cadillac CT6 are BMW 7 Series, Audi A8, Lexus LS and Mercedes-Benz S-Class. Moreover, the Acura RLX, Genesis G90, Kia K900 and Lincoln Continental are also some of the models that can be compared to the new Caddy.
