It has been finally confirmed that the sequel to John Cameron’s hit animated movie “Avatar” will be released in 2018, as 20th Century Fox announces. The film was first delivered in 2009, and ever since then there have been various speculations about whether the sequel will ever be launched.
Due to numerous delays people began to think that “Avatar 2” will never see the light of day – it was first set to be released in December 2014, then it was pushed back to 2016, then to 2017, and after that, it was completely removed from Fox’s calendar. The reason for that was the fact that Cameron developed a rather complex epic story which couldn’t have been depicted in only one movie sequel. Thus the upcoming film, which they started making in April this year, is just the first out of four sequels that are planned to be released in not so distant future. The third, fourth and fifth part of Avatar franchise are supposed to be delivered in 2024, 2024 and 2024. Here’s what Cameron said about the future plans: “We’re making four epic [Avatar] films that stand alone but together form a saga. These movies were designed to be seen in theaters first”.
According to Deadline, the Lightstorm Entertainment film is set to be released on December 21, 2018, is still untitled, but, as they have concluded, that must be “Avatar 2”.
Apart from the long-awaited Avatar sequel, 20th Century Fox has also revealed that two Marvel Comics movies are scheduled to hit the theaters on November 2, 2018, and February 14, 2019. However, they choose to keep the titles a secret for the time being, but it has been rumored that one of them might be the new Deadpool sequel. There is a great likelihood this assumption is true, bearing in mind that last week David Leitch signed on to helm this project. Finally, the studio has also officially confirmed that Prometheus sequel, “Alien Covenant” (directed by Ridley Scott) is scheduled for May 2017.
