Honda has presented the 2017 Civic Si at the 2016 Los Angeles Auto Show. This car can be considered as a high-performance model, but the Japanese carmaker will release another high-performance vehicle called Civic Type-R that was also recently introduced. The 2018 Honda Civic Type-R will hit the market next year. Some people believe it is not necessary for Honda to release two high-spec cars, but these two versions will be significantly different.
2017 Honda Civic Si
The Civic Si concept has already been presented, and according to the carmaker, the production model will look very much like it. There is no doubt that Civic has been one of the best vehicles produced and Japanese company always had great success with it. The tenth-generation model brings more power and better design than the previous version.
The 2017 Honda Civic Si should sport a 1.5-liter turbo unit that produces 180 hp on some other models in manufacturers lineup. It is expected that this engine will deliver between 200 and 230 hp on the Si model thankfully to few small upgrades and different tune. The updated brakes and a limited-slip differential will be featured on the new car while the engine will be mated to a six-speed manual transmission.
Of course, some parts from the concept will not be transferred to the production car. Be that as it may, the Civic aficionados liked some of the bits and pieces such as a new active damper system, limited-slip differential, and active steering system.
2018 Honda Civic Type-R
Although the Honda Civic Si is a high-performance variant of the base, trim it can hardly be compared to the 2018 Honda Civic Type-R. We can say that the Si, which has been presented in LA, is simply an upgraded version. The Type-R brings much more to the market and although it comes with the Civic name, it is a unique vehicle.
The Type-R will bear the Civic name, but it will also be built on the same platform as the standard model. However, you will be surprised when you find out what will be under the hood. The previous generation Type-R came with a 2.0-liter that produced 306 hp. Rumor has it that the unit in the 2018 Honda Civic Type-R will receive a power upgrade and it will deliver 340 hp. The last generation vehicle is powerful enough, but the new model is awe-inspiring.
Another reason why the 2018 Honda Civic Type-R is specific is that it will also be offered to the North America market. You would have trouble finding some of the previous models of Type-R in the US. This will be different with the new car, which is great news for Honda fans across the United States.
2017 Honda Civic Si vs. 2018 Honda Civic Type-R
You must be aware that the Si and the Type-R are different vehicles and that these will draw the attention of diverse customers. Although the Civic Si is the high-performance car, it is just an upgraded version of the standard model. Honda has simply wanted to add something that was missing from the regular car, and they will do so with this iteration. On the other hand, the Honda Civic Type-R is completely overhauled, and it boasts power, performance, and speed. So, if you want the most powerful version of the Civic, the Type-R is your number one choice. If you seek to buy an upgraded version of the Civic, which is economical, then we advise you to go with the Si.
Another important aspect you need to consider is the price. However, Honda is still silent, but we expect that the price of the Type R will top the price of the Civic Si by a considerable amount. Both vehicles are terrific, and the Civic continues to bring smiles to the faces of its drivers, and it is individual which model you will like better.
