Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson surprised the audience at the “Moana” premiere in Los Angeles together with songwriter Lin-Manuel Miranda when the two of them grabbed the microphone and sang a duet of “You’re welcome.” The song in question is one of the many you will have the opportunity to hear in Disney’s upcoming film “Moana,” which is set to be released on November 23. To be more precise, it is the song Johnson’s character, the legendary demigod Maui, sings in this movie which portrays the adventure young girl Moana and Maui embark on.
What was even more interesting to find out during this special performance was the fact that Johnson didn’t feel completely comfortable in a role of a singer. If there hadn’t been for Miranda to back him up, he would have found it even more difficult to overcome his inhibitions. Can you believe that? A multi-talented TV star who has just been chosen for the most attractive man of the year by People Magazine and has recently been said to be one of the most likable American celebrities admits that he found the singing part of the movie making intimidating.
Looking back at the process of filming, Johnson has said that he was under a lot of pressure at that time particularly because of the fact that “Moana” is some kind of musical and he was not accustomed to singing “to this level,” as he describes it. Furthermore, he explains that Miranda helped him a lot by encouraging “his inner Broadway star” for the purpose of this movie they worked on together and he made him realize how challenging the lyrics of the song were.
However, no matter how anxious or insecure Johnson might have been during his live performance of “You’re welcome,” it was still quite obvious how enjoyable this was for him, just like he claims the movie making was.
