These past few days and even weeks Honda has been the center of many news articles and coverages that concern the vehicles they have been preparing. The amount of news surrounding Honda hit the roof the instant they announced the long-awaited launch of the five-door Type R. But for now we will leave this model aside and focus on something else that comes in the form of a Si version of this 10th gen Civic that will make its debut, in prototype form, at the LA auto show.
The Si version of the new Civic you see here is pretty much production ready, no matter if they call it a prototype, and we sincerely expect that it will not change much when the production starts. The outside design is extraordinary with a mean-looking front segment that in a way resembles the one that Sport Hatchback has, 19-inch wheels, aero kit, centrally placed exhaust and the rear wing which is mandatory in every model year. Interior is also pretty much production ready, and hopefully, it will remain same, especially those Si-specific sport front seats that give out super comfortable and supportive feel. The bright red floor mats that came from HFP are little too much, and we can definitely go without them.
2017 Honda Civic Si Engine and Performance
If you do not like the coupe form, or just have a need for a sedan version, do not be afraid Honda’s got you covered because they will offer the sedan version of the Si, but the hatchback is definitely out of the question – it is still Type R’s territory. Performance numbers are not present yet, but we believe that Japanese car maker will disclose them probably in the following days during the LA show. What, on the other hand, is known is that the 2017 Honda Civic Si will use the 1.5-liter turbocharged inline four paired with a six-speed manual transmission, and it will be the “fastest, most powerful Si yet” according to the company representatives. As Honda always targeted the GTI segment and the likes of it, we presume that the engine output on this one will be somewhere in the ballpark of 225 HP just to keep it competitive with the VW GTI.
Honda went all out for this model year, and according to them, the Si will have new active damper and steering systems, a limited-slip differential, and optional high-performance tires, which is great for those who need just a little more from their car. Jeff Conrad, Honda’s senior vice president and the general manager, stated that “This will be, hands down, the fastest, best-handling Si we’ve ever offered to our customer.” This all sounds good, and the car looks good, but more accurate and official info will be available in the upcoming days, and we just can’t wait to report them back to you!
