Jeep Wrangler is one of the most popular off-road SUVs in the US and it has been in the market for a long time. Each month, around 19,000 units are sold and the Wrangler has always fought against Chevrolet Malibu and Ford Explorer in the market. What is important for Wrangler is that it will likely stay popular since the new model just behind the corner.
Just like the ongoing model, the new one will be a body-on-frame vehicle implying that the rough roads will be a piece of cake for the new Jeep. The American carmaker will try to modify the car in every aspect, without changing the off-road abilities.

Also, they will produce the body mostly from aluminum, so the new Wrangler will see the reduction in weight. According to some leaked documents, the new Wrangler will have aluminum doors and hood, but the other parts may be made out of aluminum as well. The ongoing version is rated at 17 mpg in the city and 21 mpg on the highway, which means that the company will also try to improve fuel economy.
The Exterior
The exterior will see some minor changes, but the overall look will mostly remain the same. The grille should be more curved than on the current model. Also, there will be some changes to the windshield and all these minor modifications will improve the aerodynamics of the vehicle. The flip-up window and the tailgate that opens to the side will be kept. As for the Wrangler Unlimited, only the four-door model will be available.
The new car will be equipped with running lights produced out of LED thin stripes and they will be located on front fenders. The lights on the rear will take the not so sharp X shape. One of the biggest exterior changes is a new three-piece removable roof design. It is speculated that the new roof design appears on the new Wrangler for the first time. The roof will resemble the one of the Renegade.

The Interior
Unlike the exterior, we don’t know much about the cabin, but it is expected that the new Wrangler comes with various features. So, as we have seen on some other Jeep models, the grille graphics or cut-outs are a possibility. Hopefully, the US carmaker will find the balance between comfort and toughness.
Engine Options
Under the hood, we will most likely see the updated version of the V6 engine which is in the current model. It will be paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission. Furthermore, a turbocharged inline V4 unit that produces 300 hp is also an option. The company will probably offer a turbodiesel engine as well.
In addition, a hybrid is also possible, but if it is introduced, the fanatics of the Wrangler and the off-road driving will most likely stick to the traditional powertrain options. However, the hybrid would be nice for someone who drives the car more casually and who wants better fuel economy. The Wrangler pickup will also be launched and it will go against Toyota Tacoma and Chevrolet Colorado.
It is possible that the new Wrangler will be presented at the 2017 Detroit Auto Show, where the current one was also unveiled.
