The prices of pickup trucks are going through the roof nowadays. For example, new Ford F-150 Platinum is priced at $56,000. Moreover, all pickups follow the same pattern, and nobody wants to risk with it and add something different, something that is not specific for that kind of vehicle. However, the following six trucks were always different.
This Chevrolet looked up to the late-1940s model and it does look bizarre. The SSR was equipped with a 6.0-liter V8 that produced 395 horsepower. Moreover, one could opt for either 6-speed manual or 4-speed automatic. The SSR looked more like a car and this was because it used the GMT 368 platform. Just for the record, the truck managed to go from 0-60mph in just 5.5 seconds.
The Lincoln Blackwood had been in production just for one year. It did look ridiculous and it seemed that someone glued the short bed to the back of the car. A 5.4-liter V8 engine was under Lincoln’s hood and it produced 300 hp and 350 lb-ft of torque. This was fine, but what if we told you that the truck weighed 5,700 lb? Not so great, because in order to reach 60 mph it took just under 10 seconds. Only 3,356 units were sold.
3. GMC Syclone
The GMC Syclone was produced way back in 1991 and it is another truck worth mentioning. This car simply had an unattractive design. The truck was equipped with a 4.3-liter turbocharged V6 rated at 280 hp and 350 lb-ft of torque. Unlike the Lincoln, this car was much faster, as it completed the 0-60 mph run in just 5.3 seconds. You only had one color option and that was black. Moreover, the AWD GMC came with 4-wheel anti-locking brakes. This car was really unique, but the risk didn’t pay off because the company sold only 2,995 trucks.
4. Ford F-150 SVT Lightning
This car appeared for the first time in 1993, but it was introduced again in 1999. The engine located in the car was a 5.4-liter supercharged V8 that delivered 380 hp and 450 lb-ft of torque. These numbers placed Ford to the second most powerful vehicle in the country. From 0 to 60 mph the Lightning took 5.2 seconds. The towing capacity was 5,000 pounds, which was pretty impressive.
5. Ram SRT-10
The Ram SRT-10 was specific because it had the 8.3-liter V10 unit from Dodge Viper. The engine was rated at 500 hp and 525 lb-ft of torque. It reached 0-60 mph in just 4.9 seconds. The top speed was 154.587 mph, making it the fastest production pickup in the world twelve years ago. In three years of production, the sales reached 9,527 units.
6. Subaru BRAT
The light-duty AWD pickup was designed by Subaru in order to challenge other light-duty trucks produced by Nissan, Mazda and Toyota. It had two seats in the bed which made it look bizarre. A weak 1.8-liter V4 was added and it produced 73 hp and 94 lb-ft of torque. The 4-speed manual transmission was standard whereas you could pick a 3-speed automatic. The base price was $8,338.
