The release of 2017 Toyota C-HR is not far away, at least in Australia, because camouflaged cars have been seen on the streets more frequently than usual. Toyota has previously, in the same manner, tested its Prius and Fortuner models before the official release.
C-HR will be built on Toyota’s new TNGA (Toyota New Global Architecture) platform. Its exterior design should remain unchanged in comparison to a concept that debuted on 2014 Paris Motor Show and later reappeared on 2015 Frankfurt Auto Show. The design theme features diamond architecture and coupe-like style.
Toyota announced, in September, that new C-HR will be powered by a completely new 1.2-litre turbocharged petrol engine which is able to produce 85kw and 185Nm of torque. Power will be transmitted to the front or all wheels through a six-speed manual shifter or optional continuously variable one.
There will be two trim levels available, lower called Active and upper trim Koba. Later one had its badge derived from the last name of Toyota’s global chief engineer Hiroyuki Koba.
Interior and safety wise, Australian models will be equipped with a: 6.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system, pre-collision warning system, autonomous emergency braking (AEB), adaptive cruise control, lane departure with the assist to the steering, auto-high beam, and rear-view camera. Front seats will be, uncharacteristically to SUV’s, two-tiered that can also be found on the Prius.
Koba trim that can be considered a premium one will feature certain upgrades compared to Active one. Most noticeable additions are heated seats, keyless start and entry, privacy glass and 18-inch alloy wheels.
Toyota hasn’t stated anything regarding the price, but we expect it to be slightly more expensive than its main rivals because of its premium appearance. Most likely Toyota will slot 2017 Toyota C-HR in between Corolla hatchback ($19,790) and Toyota RAV4 ($27,990) if we are looking at their lineup. Despite the higher price, Toyota will give Mazda CX-5, Mitsubishi ASX, Honda HR-V, Fiat 500X and Jeep Renegade a run for their money.
