This Swiss tennis prodigy is still the highest paid tennis player in the world, and he has been ever since 2006. Whole ten consecutive years with an annual paycheck of over $67 million is not a small thing, and it can only be achieved by having one of the greatest careers in the history of the sport such as Rodger has.
Besides the money thing, Federer also boasts with numerous other achievements in his career like most Grand Slam titles (17 in total) and still counting together with the most career titles (88 in total) and still counting as well. These are astonishing achievements for an extraordinary individual such as Roger. But let’s get something straight, he doesn’t earn all the money only from tennis, the majority of his earnings come from endorsement deals, and his top sponsors are Nike, Rolex, Mercedes-Benz, Wilson, and Gillette.
This year hasn’t been good for Federer in terms of tournament earnings because he received just a little more than $1.5 million in a season that had to be cut short because his knee injury. This is why having endorsements is a good thing because the sources like this do not run dry in case you do not play all that much. 2016 is disappointing for him in one more way, and it is because this year will be the first one without a title since 2000.

The one player that is really close to Federer is Serbian tennis star Novak Djokovic. Despite Novak earns more than Federer on the court he still can’t make as much as Swiss because Novak’s endorsement deals are roughly half of those that Federer makes. The Swiss managed to accumulate upwards of $560 million throughout his career from prize money, endorsements, and appearance fees. All of this is what has helped him take the first place as a top paid player and remain there for all these years. Just to compare, the top paid player in WTA Serena Williams managed to acquire almost $30 million between 2015 and 2016 although she had to cut this season short due to a shoulder injury. The only ones who managed to get ahead of Federer are NBA star LeBron James and soccer stars Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi who are the only ones that annually earn more than our Swiss tennis star.
