As the new seasons kicked off across Europe and wider, one person, in particular, is drawing a lot of our attention. The reason for this is because we are not used to such news from a player of his caliber. Apparently, Cristiano Ronaldo’s goalless start of the season with Real Madrid is stretching to his fourth game, which seems a little out of the ordinary.
Although Real Madrid is currently first on the Primera Division table with 21 points and nine games behind them, their latest victory was everything but worth of praise. They barely managed to scrape a win against Athletic Club to regain that first place at the top of the table. What was one of the factors that contributed to that hard earned win is the bad luck streak that Real Madrid’s star is having lately. Looking at the statistics, Cristiano Ronaldo is having the worst possible start of the seasons since he joined Real Madrid. With the game against Athletic Club, this is Ronaldo’s fourth game without a goal, and this is his longest dry spell he had.
From the start of this year’s campaign this Portuguese forward only scored two goals which also makes it his lowest. Just to compare and to give you insight into the story here are some stats from his last season. At this exact point in season 2014-2015, Ronaldo had already brought home 13 goals in total and scored five goals in his first six matches. What was even more unbelievable is that he failed to score in the last four games at his home stadium the Santiago Bernabeu. The bad luck stretches to his dribble accuracy and completion where he had only three dribbles out of 15 completed successfully which translates to only 20% accuracy in this season so far.
The Pichichi chart is very odd looking now, one of the reasons is that Lionel Messi currently leads with seven goals from seven appearances and he is followed very closely by his teammate Luis Suarez. All this while Cristiano is tied at the back of the chart fighting for a 34th place with Gerard Pique who is not that of a goal scorer. The other names at the bottom of the list who are making Cristiano company are Sergio Ramos, Hugo Mallo, and Raul Garcia. We really hope that Ronaldo will snap back and do that very soon if he wants to make any impact in the first part of the season.
